Christ Is the Christian Sabbath
Saturday is not the Christian Sabbath. Sunday is not the Christian Sabbath. Jesus Christ is the Christian Sabbath. The Apostle Paul says the elements play no part in the Spiritual New Covenant.
He says that it is not about what you eat or drink or about Sabbath Days. Yes Christ came in the flesh. God walked on the earth as a man while God was in heaven and the Holy Spirit was in Him and was going to be sent as another advocate to the disciples. (John Chapter 14.).
But Christ walked on the earth to fulfill the law of Moses. And His resurrection abolished the law of Moses. (Eph 2:15) With the abolition of those elemental rules, the Sabbath can no longer be just a day.
Paul said, in Colossians 2:16-17:
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. NiV
So, Paul is saying that the body of believers is of Christ. He is our rest. We read in Hebrews chapters 3 and 4 that a rest remains for the people of God. That rest is belief in Christ. That is not a blind faith. But it is an evidence of things unseen as we see in Hebrews 11:1.
The elect in Christ are given faith. The walk in that faith brings rest. False doctrine and legalism get in the way of that rest.
Rest in Christ is a wonderful thing. It is made available to few. Many are called but few are chosen.
Hebrew 4:6-11 speaks to the Sabbath rest as being the reception of the good news of Jesus Christ:
Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts."
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,
just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. NIV
Christ is our Sabbath because He is equal to the Father.
John 5:18 - This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, MAKING HIMSELF EQUAL WITH GOD.
